Mentorship Program

IMG_8558 copyOur Secondary School Mentorship Program

YWiB UBC is pioneering an innovative and exciting new mentorship program in partnership with secondary schools in the Vancouver School district. Targeted towards grade 8 and 9 female students, the purpose of our program is to provide young girls with a smooth transition into high school by promoting confidence, academic and social success, and school and community involvement. The program’s goal is to provide young girls with a compatible, positive role model, and most importantly a new friendship, to help guide them in the direction towards success.

This is an amazing opportunity for mentors to develop their own communication skill set and most importantly, make a positive impact on the life of a young girl. Mentors will build a friendship with their mentee through self-directed contact in person, via email, phone calls, and through internet social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Group workshops and activities are events for all participants to come together, held once a month, with the exception of December. These monthly events will be educational, yet creative and fun! Our program aims to address important issues that young girls may face (drugs, alcohol, sex, self confidence, relationships…) and will emphasize healthy lifestyles along the way, ultimately giving the girls good decision making skills.
